Mama Lacona’s sub sandwich bread tasted as though it was frozen, thawed, frozen, thawed, and then attempted to be warmed up. I’ve had fresh bread, I’ve made fresh bread, and I’ve even had two-day old bread that claimed to be fresh. I’ll start with their so-called fresh bread. At least then I would’ve been able to ingest the food placed in front of me verses regurgitating the first and only bite of my meatball sub back onto my plate. I wish we would’ve ordered the sad excuse, fast-food chain Fazoli’s instead. Mama Lacona’s is the shittiest excuse for an Italian restaurant that I have ever had the displeasure of tasting. We need more restaurants with staff like Mama Lacona’s in DSM. I’d probably rate the food a 4, but the service makes it a 5 total. Their marinara sauce is among the best in my opinion, and they even have gluten-free breadsticks to start the meal, so it’s worth the cost on occasion for me! My husband is severely lactose intolerant, and thinks their food is pretty good. I would say ordering a GF pizza without cheese is the most worth my money, because I can easily make pasta/sauce at home. Onto the food itself, the GF/ND food is pretty good. As soon as the food comes out, they check and make sure it’s correct they honestly care, and that’s more than I could ask for. Every single server and manager I have ever interacted with here is knowledgeable and quick to ensure that my food is allergen free.

I am allergic to gluten and dairy and I have never had an issue at Mama Lacona’s, which is interesting, considering it’s an Italian place. The staff is incredibly friendly here, and they adhere to my husband’s golden rule: they bring you a new beverage, instead of taking yours to fill it up.

It’s never packed when we go, and we are always greeted/seated within a minute of walking in. (the wedge salad was fun to eat as it basically made you either cut the lettuce or get messy trying to reduce it to pieces you could actually eat) All-in-all I give it a 3⁄ 5 as it was just another place with prices a bit too high for things you could get at the store for half the cost. That said, the price of the meal was almost $ 20 for a plate of pasta and two meatballs with a wedge salad. Now I do not claim to be a expert but when you can cut open a meatball and clearly see and taste that it was a mechanically processed piece of meat that tasted like it had been frozen before, that does not make a very good impression on the waitress or the chief for lying to a customer. (One does not have a microwave in the kitchen without the use of it) When my food had arrived (very quickly, I might add) I asked if the meatballs were made in the restaurant, to which she answered yes. The menu was nicely laid out and the waitress did not rush me in my choices (I suppose she could afford to with the lack of customers) and I asked if they had a microwave in the kitchen to which she said yes, so I asked if it was used to reheat or cook anything in particular to which she said no.

I had arrived for lunch and was greeted very promptly, I noticed that there were very few people here so that set me off a bit on the «is it worth it scale» as I saw only five maybe six other customers.
